The Line is a mobile app for synchronous, one-to-one text conversation. You look someone up, their device rings, and if they answer you both see each other typing live. Text is not stored: what you write fades on screen and the conversation is deleted when the line closes. There is no inbox, no history and no way to retrieve a conversation after it ends.
Because conversations are not retained, The Line cannot recover anything you said, for you or for anyone else. Do not use it as a record of anything you need to keep.
You must be 13 or older to use The Line. If you sign in with a phone number, it must be a number you control.
You can use The Line either with a verified phone number or anonymously with a temporary handle. An anonymous handle is released when you leave and does not persist. A username you claim is yours while your account exists and is released if you delete it.
You are responsible for what happens on your account. If you lose control of your phone number, delete your account or contact us.
Do not use The Line to harass, threaten, impersonate, or send unlawful content to anyone. Do not use it to send unsolicited bulk messages. Do not attempt to interfere with the service, other people's accounts, or the systems that run it.
If you do not want to hear from someone, you can block them; blocked users cannot ring you.
The Line is provided as-is and may be unavailable, interrupted or changed at any time. Delivery of an incoming line depends on push notification services operated by Apple and Google and on your device's own settings; a call may not reach you.
You may delete your account at any time from the app's settings. Deletion removes your directory record, your username claim, your contact-discovery index entry, your push tokens and your block list from our servers. We may suspend or end access for anyone who breaks these terms.
The Line is provided without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the app, including loss of a conversation that was never retained in the first place.
These terms may change. The effective date above reflects the latest version, and continuing to use The Line after a change means you accept it.
